Designers in Residence 2010

As a final result to my major project, I organised a residency programme throughout our degree show in June. Designers in Residence consisted of a group of students who worked on a set of projects for the duration of our degree show. The objective was to achieve shared experiences and outcomes by playing with rules, opinions and philosophies. A combination of different tasks tied in together through the build up of a gradual exhibition which has been accompanied by the launch of a journal that documents the process of all the projects. The group was set and exposed to a project each day by a mix of designers and non-designers who in their practice are dealt with rules. The challenge was to complete the task given for the end of the day set by designers and to adopt and reflect some of the field's philosophies within the tasks set by the non-designers. This involved the act of interpreting and representing them through communication design. The group had been reflecting these philosophies in a different language as opposed to their own. Overall this allowed visitors to observe the process, interact with the designers and participate in the project itself.

Participants:  Alex Prior, Alice Stein, Houman Momtazian, Mike Kosmicki & Ghazaal Vojdani
